And now, continuing with my blog!

My spring semester finally finished, and I’ve had a chance to breathe, relax, and start catching back up with the housework after finishing all my final projects. It feels really great to be on summer break, and really great to be able to enjoy being a full-time stay-at-home mom (other than all my music gigs and teaching lessons, that is). So, now I have time to continue writing my blog.

I feel like such an itinerant blogger– I’ve started and stopped so many times in the past, each time with a slightly different focus as my life changes. So, I feel like I can take just a moment to think about why I’m doing this blog right now. Mainly, it’s just for me– a way to keep track of what I eat. Food has always been important to me. I like to eat good food, but I also care about many related things: the environment, organic farming, eating local food, feeding healthy food to my baby, etc. As a super-busy mom, I often feel more than a little disorganized, and feel like I’m trying to just keep up with all my many obligations, although I crave organization and structure. I feel like this blog is simply a way for me to keep track of things: what I fixed for supper, whether I liked it or not, whether I’d want to make it again, etc. I keep a regular paper notebook for all of my meal planning, grocery lists, etc., but I like the functionality of using a blog: tags, categories, etc. It makes it easy to store and keep track of lots of recipes.

Another reason I’ve felt a little guilty in the past about blogging/not blogging, is that I’ve gone through many lifestyle changes in the last few years. First, I became vegetarian again (I’d been vegetarian my whole childhood until age 13), then after a year I became vegan, and remained vegan for another year. Then, when I was pregnant, I found that I was intensely craving meat. I’ve been eating meat since then (my baby is now 13 months), but I haven’t been a very heavy meat eater: just about once or twice a week. However, at my son’s most recent pediatrician checkup, we found out that he has low iron levels, and also is on the low end of the weight range. So, we’re currently trying to eat meat every day (which is actually a bit hard for me), and trying to make sure that he eats really well. So, for now my blog will probably focus heavily on meat dishes.

Anyways, those are my basic thoughts on continuing with my blog!
